As the son of a welder, brought up in Bedminster in Bristol, David Gillard never imagined he and his family would now be overseeing a successful rural business park with a wide range of tenants.
“When my wife, Ann, and I bought the farm in 1987, I had been immersed in the business of packing and selling cheese and we were rearing some sheep, the Dutch breed Zwartbles with their distinctive dark coats.”
“We created an office to work from, but not long afterwards needed to move to larger premises and someone asked if they could take on the vacant space. That was a light bulb moment for us. We suddenly realised there was a demand for work space in rural areas, so went about converting some of the farm buildings to offices, always using local suppliers so the spending stayed close to home.”
Since then things have grown organically and we now have a wide range of firms, including an optician, people involved in construction of various kinds, ecology, insurance, commercial cleaners and there’s even a place where children can play and their parents enjoy some tea and cake !”
